Semiconductor Quantum Nanomaterials

Welcome to the Semiconductor Quantum Nanomaterials / Koblmüller Group. We conduct a broad array of research activities on innovative semiconductor quantum nanomaterials (III-V based nanowires, quantum dots and 2D heterostructures) and their use within diverse research areas spanning the fields of photonics, electronics, quantum technologies and energy conversion.

Along these avenues we pursue all stages from synthesis to simulation & characterization of electronic, optical and structural properties, as well as to device fabrication & probing device functionalities in regimes where quantum effects come into play. Important themes currently pursued are advanced synthesis of III-V nanowire and planar group-III nitride & 2D-materials heterostructures, exploration of their semi-classical and quantum transport properties, the development of unique nanothermoelectric materials and advanced-concept 3D-structured light absorbers, as well as monolithically integrated nanoscale coherent light sources - the latter being generously funded by the ERC Consolidator Grant QUANtIC. Our approach is collaborative, integrated and multidisciplinary in nature, interfacing materials science, physics, and electrical engineering.

The group has strong links to several Clusters of Excellence, e-conversion, MCQST (Munich Center for Quantum Science and Technology), the Nanosystems Initiative Munich, as well as to Integrative Research Centers and Schools, the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS), the Munich Quantum Center, the International Graduate School for Science and Engineering (IGSSE), and the Munich School of Engineering (MSE).
